Assessment week
The week of the 15th October is our first assessment week of the year. Students from Year 7 through to Year 13 will have assessment’s during that week. These will take place during les-son times and for older students will be based around GCSE or A level exam questions.
This will be our first opportunity to judge how our students are progressing and evaluate what steps they will need take to ensure they fulfil their potential. We will also be able to plan any additional support we might need to give them.
Parents will receive a Grade Letter at the end of October and this will contain a summary of these assessments.
Our Exam Week will be the week of 3rd December.
Academic tutors
Now that students have settled into their school routine, those in Year 7, 11, 12 & 13 will be allocated an Academic Tutor. They will meet students every six weeks or so (more if needed) and monitor their academic progress. This will involve a detailed discussion about work habits, homework completion, assessment results and setting future targets.
This will be a very important process and will help students remain focussed on their goals for their education.

Bales College values
We are a forward—thinking school providing an individualised learning experience to all our students. At the core of our learn-ing philosophy is the belief that each child has their own flightpath for success in education and in life. Our well qualified, highly experienced teaching staff are supportive of each child’s individual progress. Bales College is a caring and motivating environment which will encourage all children to give their best. We have four core values which drive this vision for our school:
- Respect;
- Energy;
- Perseverance; and
- Humour
Our assemblies on Monday mornings have been themed around these core values, and explaining what they mean to our students.
French institute visit
Mme Archer, our French Teacher, is planning a visit to the French Institute (South Kensington) on 2nd October 2018. This will form an important part of the student’s French course for this year. We will leave College at 10.40am and will have lunch at the venue and re-turn to college around 3.30pm. They will see a screening of ‘The 400 Blows’, by François Truffaut (1959)
Les 400 Coups counts as one of the masterpieces of French cinema.
