Rememberance day
This Sunday marks 100 years since the end of World War One. This was probably the biggest and worst armed conflict in recent history. It is estimated that over 16 million soldiers died, with the total number of both military and civilian casualties estimated at around 37 million. Many of the soldiers were very young, a few who mislead authorities about their age were only 14 years old. Each of these people, and especially the soldiers were a terrible loss to their families.
Students in Bales College commemorated the centenary today, Friday 9th November, with a very moving ceremony in St John’s Church. Students read poetry and Father David spoke of the link between the local community in Kensal Green and those who sacrificed their lives. Thank you to Mr Corcut for his hard work in organising this important event.
Exam week 3 December
All students will sit formal exams during the week of 3rd December. They will be issued with an exam time-table which will help them to plan their revision schedule. Most students will sit exams in rooms 1 & 2 and we aim for these exams to be as much like the real thing as possible. The exam timetable will be published on Friday 16th November.
Yayoi Kusama Exhibition
On Tuesday years 7, 8 & 9 travelled to Hackney to see the Yayoi Kusama exhibition at the Victoria Miro gallery. It was a fantastic opportunity to experience the work of one of the most influential artists of our time. Kusama is known for creating installations which completely absorb viewers into an alternate world. Students were treated to a smorgasbord of Kusama’s installations, paintings and sculptures.
One of the most memorable artworks in the exhibition was the infinity mirrored rooms. Students stood inside a room filled with mirrors and polka dotted lanterns. The effect was a sense of floating inside a light show which stretched beyond the confines of the physical space. Thank you to Mr Corcut, Mr Pinson and Kirikou’s mother Ms Kavuma who accompanied the visit.
