Outstanding Private Education

Small Classes, Giving Individual Attention and Maximising Each student's Potential.

"When we took our son out of the state school system, and taught him at home for a year when he was 13, we could not envisage him even sitting his GCSEs. He is now taking A-levels with predicted A grades and has been accepted at Sussex University. This is a massive achievement for him and a huge credit to Bales College." Wendy Hutt, mother of David.

Private Secondary School in London - Taster/Trial Days at Bales College

We offer a number of trial/taster days for students who are interested in joining Bales College in year 7 in September 2010.

What happens on a trial day?

We understand that it is tough to choose a private school in London for your child!

Trial days are an excellent way for you and your child to see how the school operates, to get an understanding of the atmosphere and to meet with current students and teachers, as well as other prospective students and parents.

A trial day runs as a normal school day, from 8.40am through to 3.15 for prospective year 7 students (i.e. students who are currently in year 6).
The trial days are also a great way for us to get an understanding of your child (the prospective student).

While we are not academically selective at year 7 entry, we look for students with a positive attitude, who are interested in education and extra-curricular activities, and who demonstrate good classroom behaviour.

While we loosely label them "trial days", they are very informal and each student is under no pressure to "perform" on the day!

The day consists of 8 lessons, including afternoon lessons in sport with the current year 7 group, to encourage some mixing between the age groups.

We aim to keep trial days to a group size of 8-10 so that the teachers get a great deal of individual contact with each prospective student, and so each student is not overwhelmed or lost in the crowd!

Students should wear their current primary school uniform to our trial days.

Our next trial day is on Thursday 29th April 2010. For more information about the school, and to book your child onto the next trial day, please call 020 8960 5899 now.

Bales College - Private School in London

Welcome to Bales College, a co-educational Private Secondary School situated in a quiet, leafy campus in central London.

Founded in 1966, Bales is one of the older established of London's independent colleges. We welcome students of all nationalities and faiths into a dynamic and caring environment.

Bales College helps children to develop with a well-rounded education, a healthy enthusiasm for learning, and respect for one another and the community.

School Programme

Students start a programme at Year 7 that takes them right through to GCSE, preparing them in the best possible way for public examinations. A great deal of emphasis is placed on teaching students how to learn effectively, from note taking to examination technique.

Who joins?

Generally we look for children who show an academic aptitude and interest in learning at primary school. We set high academic expectations, but look to maximize the potential of each student.

Class Sizes

Classes are kept to a maximum of 16 pupils to encourage full participation from each pupil. Students have to be more involved in lessons and discussions, and teachers are able to give more individual attention to each student.

Teaching Staff

All of our teaching staff are highly experienced, and educated to at least degree level at university, many to postgraduate level. Stability is provided by the low level of staff turnover at Bales College.
The staff have a keen interest in their subjects and strive to get the most from each student, encouraging and challenging them to equal degrees.
